You like the idea of a bidet, but you rent, or the bathroom is shared, or you would rather not open the toilet’s water supply connection. Most bidet attachments and handheld sprayers need exactly that: they tap into the supply line with a T-adapter. A portable bidet does not. You fill it with water yourself, use it, and refill it, so nothing gets installed and nothing stays behind when you leave.
That trade has costs, and they decide which kind suits you. This guide compares three portable styles, with what the makers document for four examples, what you give up, and when a connected option is the better answer. If you have already decided to connect one, see our guides to bidet attachments and handheld bidet sprayers.
โ๏ธ The Short Answer
The three styles here are a cap that fits a bottle you already own, a squeeze bottle made for the job, and a battery-powered handheld. Each holds only what its container holds, so the choice comes down to where you will use it, how much water you want per wash, and whether you would rather squeeze or press a button. If you will use a bidet every day and do not want to refill anything, a connected one may suit you better.
IN THIS GUIDE
Every product we compare holds its own water. You fill it at a sink or tap, carry it to the toilet, and refill it afterwards. None of them uses a hose, a T-adapter or the toilet’s shut-off valve.
That separates them from the groups we already cover. A bidet attachment or a handheld sprayer is connected to the toilet’s supply line; our install guides for a bidet attachment and a handheld sprayer begin by shutting off the water. Bidet seats are a third group, compared in bidet attachment vs. bidet seat. A separate bidet fixture beside the toilet needs its own plumbing.
These three styles are not the only way to avoid the water line. Some makers sell seat-mounted attachments fed by their own reservoir and rechargeable pump. We researched one, PortaBidets Home, but it was unavailable on Amazon when we checked, so it is not compared here.
This is not a ranking. It lists what each maker’s sheet or Amazon listing states for four examples, two of them battery-powered. The figures are theirs, not ours.
| Example and style | Water it holds | Power and notes |
|---|---|---|
| CuloClean bottle cap Cap for a plastic bottle you supply |
Whatever your bottle holds | None; you squeeze the bottle. The 12 g (0.42 oz) cap is sold without a bottle. |
| Frida Upside Down Peri Bottle Squeeze bottle with angled neck |
10 US fl oz | None; you squeeze the bottle. Storage bag included. |
| Kohler PureWash M050 Battery-powered handheld |
6-3/4 US fl oz (200 mL); Kohler estimates up to one minute of use | Two AAA batteries, included. High and low pressure. |
| Bidet Buddy CubeJet Battery-powered handheld |
About 12.8 US fl oz (380 mL) | Built-in rechargeable battery, USB-C. IPX6 water-resistant. |
Other makers sell the same styles. These four are examples where we could read the maker’s own page or sheet and match it to a current US Amazon listing; they are not a verdict on every alternative.
CuloClean makes a small spray cap that fits into the opening of a plastic bottle, so the bottle becomes the reservoir. You squeeze the bottle for pressure.

Frida’s Upside Down Peri Bottle has a narrow, angled neck. Frida says it is designed to be held upside down, holds 10 US fl oz, and comes with a waterproof storage bag. The Amazon listing we link names the bag and gives the same capacity.
Frida sells the bottle mainly for postpartum use, and its listing names other health uses. We have not assessed those claims. If you are recovering from childbirth or surgery, follow your clinician’s advice.

A battery-powered unit pumps the water instead of relying on a squeeze. The two here differ in how they are powered and how much they hold.
Kohler PureWash M050. Kohler’s specification sheet lists a refillable 6-3/4 US fl oz (200 mL) canister for warm or cold water, high and low pressure, a nozzle that adjusts through 180ยฐ, two spray nozzle attachments, a carrying strap, and two AAA batteries included.

Bidet Buddy CubeJet. Bidet Buddy’s product page lists a bottle of about 12.8 US fl oz (380 mL), a USB-C rechargeable battery, an IPX6 water-resistance rating, high and low modes, and a bottle adapter. Its FAQ describes filling the bottle, extending the wand and pressing the button.

Check the selected seller, return terms and warranty eligibility before ordering; offers on the same listing can differ.
If the toilet is yours, you will use a bidet every day, and you do not want to refill anything, a connected attachment supplies water continuously while it is connected. Installing one does touch the toilet’s supply line, and our guides cover the steps. For the choice between an attachment and a seat, start with bidet attachment vs. bidet seat. A portable one fits a rental, a guest bathroom, a car or a travel bag, or a trial before you commit to an install.
No. Each one holds its own water, which you fill at a sink or tap.
Kohler’s sheet gives an estimate of up to one minute of use from one 6-3/4 US fl oz (200 mL) canister. Your actual time will depend on the setting and how you use it.
Kohler’s sheet describes its canister as holding warm or cold water. For the others, follow the maker’s instructions; Bidet Buddy states its own water guidance in its FAQ, and a bottle you supply has its own limits.
