Introduction

A sewer camera with a sonde does two jobs. The camera shows what is inside the pipe, and the sonde, a small transmitter near the camera head, lets a separate receiver carried above ground find where that head is. Whether you get both jobs out of one box depends on the package, and that is what this guide compares.

It covers three packages: the Milwaukee 2973-22, the RIDGID 78728 and the Sanyipace S850DSTKM with its S58R receiver. We have not used any of them. The details come from the makersโ€™ product pages and manuals, read on 21 October 2026, and the lineup is not a ranking. How to find the camera head once you have a kit is covered in the locating section of our operating guide; for general drain cameras compared by format and cable length, see our drain camera comparison.

โœ๏ธ The Short Answer

Start with the pipe and the screen. Milwaukee documents its system for 2โ€“6 in lines and RIDGID documents its reel for 1ยฝโ€“4 in lines, so the two ranges overlap, and Sanyipace says its camera suits pipes larger than 1.5 in. The Milwaukee needs its own monitor or a tablet, the RIDGID streams to your own phone or tablet, and the Sanyipace is the only one with a monitor included. None of the three includes a receiver in the kit, so budget for one, and check what it shows: Milwaukeeโ€™s locator and RIDGIDโ€™s SR-20 are documented with depth readouts, while Sanyipaceโ€™s S58R shows signal strength only.

The Three Packages Side by Side

Each entry shows what the maker lists in the package, how you view the picture, and what you still have to buy. Cable lengths are listed maximums, not usable reach.

The Packages

Milwaukee 2973-22 (M18 120 ft Mid-Stiff Pipeline Inspection System)

Milwaukee documents the 2973-22 for 2โ€“6 in sewer and main lines, with a 120 ft cable and a 25 mm self-leveling camera head, and lists its weight at 35.6 lb. The kit holds the reel, the M18 control hub that stores recordings, two M18 batteries, a charger, a tablet mount and a grounding stake.

There is no screen in the box. You watch on Milwaukeeโ€™s M18 Wireless Monitor, sold separately, or on your own tablet running Milwaukeeโ€™s inspection app. The sonde is switched on from either, at 512 Hz or 33 kHz.

The receiver is also separate. Milwaukeeโ€™s M12 Pipeline Locator Kit (2580-21) is built to find this sonde and must be set to the same frequency. It shows a depth-to-sonde readout, though we found no accuracy figure for it. Milwaukee places the sonde at the end of the reelโ€™s spring, behind the camera head.

Budget for three items: the kit, a monitor or tablet, and the locator.

RIDGID 78728 (SeeSnake microREEL APX & CSx Via System)

RIDGID documents the microREEL APX in the 78728 for 1ยฝโ€“4 in pipes, with a 100 ft cable, a 25 mm camera head and a 2.5 in minimum bend radius. The kit adds the CSx Via control unit, one battery and one charger. The camera is fixed with a 640 ร— 480 resolution, and RIDGID keeps the picture upright electronically rather than with a mechanically leveling head.

There is no screen. The CSx Via streams to your own iOS, Android or Windows device through RIDGIDโ€™s free HQx Live app or HQ software, and the same app controls the camera and the sonde.

The 512 Hz sonde is built into the camera head, and no receiver is included. SeeSnakeโ€™s sonde-locating guide names the SeekTech SR-20, SR-24, SR-60, NaviTrack II and Scout as example receivers, and RIDGID lists measured depth on the SR-20.

Plan for two extras: a phone or tablet, and a receiver.

Sanyipace S850DSTKM (100 ft)

The S850DSTKM is the only entry with its own screen. It comes with a 10 in monitor, a 32 GB recording card, a battery, a charger, a 100 ft cable and a 23 mm camera head with a built-in 512 Hz transmitter. Sanyipace says it fits pipes larger than 1.5 in and works with any 512 Hz locator.

The receiver is a separate purchase, and the two Amazon links below are for the camera and the S58R receiver as separate items. The S58R shows signal strength in far and near modes. Sanyipaceโ€™s instructions describe pinpointing the transmitter to within about 0.8 m, but no depth readout is documented.

Sanyipaceโ€™s own site also sells a camera-and-S58R option, along with an S68R receiver this guide does not cover. Its page does not list the receiverโ€™s accessories, so confirm what comes with that option before ordering. We have not confirmed that the two Amazon purchases include the same accessories.

Questions to Ask Before You Order

These apply to any sewer camera listing that mentions a sonde or locator.

  • Exact kit. The model or catalog number, the cable length and the receiver option. Sellers often put several versions on one page.
  • Screen. Is a monitor included, or do you supply a phone, tablet or Windows device, and which app does the maker name?
  • Sonde. Is it built in, at what frequency, and where is it switched on?
  • Receiver. Included, sold separately or a selectable option? Does it show depth or only signal strength?
  • Frequency match. Two products that both say 512 Hz are not proven compatible by that alone. Look for a compatibility statement from the sondeโ€™s maker.
  • Pipe size and reach. Cable length is a listed maximum, not guaranteed reach. Compare the line capacity and bend radius with your pipe.
  • Upright picture. An electronic image flip turns the picture in software; a self-leveling head is a mechanical design. Check which the maker means.

A location reading is an estimate, and a mark on the ground is not permission to dig. Our operating guide covers how to verify a reading and when to bring in a professional.

Sources and Limits

Read on 21 October 2026. We have not used these systems; the manufacturersโ€™ own pages and manuals are the sources, and we used no ratings or prices.

Limits that matter when buying:

  • Cable reach, detection range and depth figures are the makersโ€™ own claims; none of the sources gives a tested figure for a specific pipe, depth or soil.
  • Amazon links are provided only for the Sanyipace camera and S58R receiver. We did not verify exact US purchasing listings for the Milwaukee and RIDGID packages, so those link to the makers.
  • Sanyipaceโ€™s page does not itemise the accessories of its S58R option, and its manual does not mention the S58R.
